The Drivers of Crime Ministerial Meeting - 3 April 2009

The Drivers of Crime Ministerial Meeting was held at Parliament in April 2009. The aim of the meeting was to bring together those involved in preventing and dealing with crime to agree on the underlying drivers of crime.

Purpose of the meeting

The meeting laid the foundation for the development of a new approach to reducing crime and victimisation.

This approach focuses on addressing the underlying drivers of crime, rather than just the criminal justice system’s response to it. Participants and any other person or organisation with an interest in the matters discussed at the meeting, were invited to meet with their networks, organisations, iwi and communities, to discuss the proceedings and provide submissions on further points they wished to convey on the drivers of crime and suggested approaches to addressing them.

Participants

The meeting was attended by over 100 participants from a range of backgrounds, with a common interest and expertise in dealing with, and preventing, crime and victimisation.
