About the Tribunal
The Copyright Tribunal comprises three members and is currently chaired by Professor Frankel.
The Copyright Tribunal hears disputes and applications about licensing schemes and file sharing infringements.
The Tribunal is made up of a Chairperson and five members appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister of Commerce. The Chairperson must be a barrister or solicitor of the High Court with at least seven years' experience. The current chairperson is Professor S Frankel.
The Copyright Tribunal is governed by the Copyright Act 1994 and sits within the Ministry of Justice Tribunals Unit.
